Q&A: What is the difference between PADI, NAUI and SSI?

I'm thinking of getting scuba certified before my trip to Belize in June. I don't know the difference between the different organizations? There is an SSI facility down the street from my house. If I get certified there, can I rent and go on dive trips from a PADI or NAUI certified shop, or will they not recognize my SSI card? Which one should I go through?

My buddy and I both scuba dive and golf and he is so adamant that golf is a more expensive sport than scuba diving. I couldn't disagree more and want your input if your not bias to just one sport. I have worked at a golf course and a dive shop and would say diving is a much more expensive sport in general.

Gee Gee Scuba Diving Boracay Philippines - Jan 27 2011

After Gee Gee finished up her E-Learning for the Open Water Scuba course, we did a few dives with the guys from Victory Divers in Boracay Philippines. After doing some basic skills needed for her open water certification, we dived down to 6 meters then down a small wall to around 20 meters. The visibility was around 15 meters at the depth of 18 meters on average.

How far down is there still enough light to see? Without any additional/mechanical lights, at what depth is the farther a human can still see fairly well?
